After years of hating and abusing my body, I’ve finally learned to love, nourish and take care of it. For the first time in my life, I feel body positive.
Although empowering (and by no means negative), I often find the terms “body positivity” and “real women” typically associated with the curve movement. Rarely does a magazine place a ‘skinny’ girl on the cover preaching about body positivity. It’s almost as though these women are un-entitled to feel that way; that they automatically should.
Needless to say, women of ALL shapes and sizes can feel insecure about their looks. Being thin does not exempt you from having those feelings.
I’d love the media to do more to represent women of all shapes and sizes. Let’s raise a generation of girls to feel confident in their bodies, like so many of us weren’t.
