And so I find myself in New York once again, my favourite city and the place I will call home for the next three months. After visiting the agency and settling in to where I’m staying, I made a return visit to Wonderland, an amazing hair and beauty salon in the Meatpacking District. I’ve had my hair done before and it’s too fun not to share with you.
What a wonderland it is. Glass chandeliers and Barbie mermaids in plastic balls hang from the ceiling, with flashing pink neon signs and vintage mirrors on the walls. Around the wash basins hangs a blue and silver foil curtain and there is a beauty section selling a variety of cosmetics and hair products. A projector plays vintage movies on the back white wall. Visually, there is something to look at from every angle, and that makes it a unique experience in itself.
Upon arrival, you’re greeted by the lovely staff at the front desk, who take your bags and escort you into a little cabin with pink and yellow metallic wallpaper to put on your gown.
As you’re waiting to be seen by your stylist, they treat you to drinks. I was treated to a pink lemonade with champagne twice throughout my session – I’m hardly going to turn that down!
I can’t recommend my stylist Bex enough. I told her what I wanted and I got it: a warm, chocolate brown with hints of auburn. Her assistant, Daniel, was just as attentive and treated me to a nice head massage. Although I find most New Yorkers friendly, Bex went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and it didn’t go unnoticed. If you’re looking for a fun and friendly hair experience, Wonderland is the place to go. I only wish more hair salons were like this one.
Prices for a hair gloss start from $150. For more information about Wonderland, click here.
